VISION

WCD is a leader in the creation and evolution of contemporary dance in Canada, and is committed to the evolution of the art form. WCD has established a place on the local, national and international arts landscape that enables vital intersections, linkages and exchange among dance creators, dance interpreters, spectators and communities. 

MISSION

Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers delivers original and vital choreography that edifies and inspires. The company creates, produces, teaches, presents and promotes professional contemporary dance to further the art form for professional artists and audiences alike.

Our values, programs and activities are based on respect for our history, the ongoing development of our artists and our place in the community.

We are advancing the art form through the presentation of new and existing dance work that fosters artistic vitality and excellence in dance.


Artistic Goals

  • Create and produce the work of our Artistic Director.
  • Collaborate with choreographers in developing & producing an exceptional range of contemporary work.
  • Support and engage dancers, including opportunities for emerging, mid-career and senior artists.
  • Create professional development opportunities for dancers and further the creative development of our Artistic Director.
  • Present a broad range of creative work, and be a place where the creative work of Indigenous, Black, People of Color and other marginalized groups is respected, encouraged and shared.
  • Collaborate with artists and organizations locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Continue to nurture a professional relationship with the School of Contemporary Dancers, such as providing opportunities for emerging dancers through WCD’s Emerging Artist Initiative.

  • Steward the art form through the creation and presentation of high-quality contemporary dance.
  • Plan for our 60th Anniversary Season.
  • Present a broad range of creative work, and be a place where the work of Indigenous, Black, People of Color and other marginalized groups is respected, encouraged and shared.
  • Strengthen our connections and increase our visibility/performance opportunities.
  • Adapt and recover to the best of our abilities post the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Be financially responsible during this time of back-to-back years of unprecedented inflation and increased costs for everyday operations.
  • Connect with our supporters to increase fundraising.
