Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers

WCD's fun fundraiser is on February 14th at the West End Cultural Centre and we hope you have made plans to attend.

As most of you know the main event revolves around artistic chance and risk. This involves the auctioning of opportunities to create or perform with local artists who will guide a lucky few through a fun filled, if not high-speed, process.

WCD is in the final stages of lining up a few more artistic adventures but we can tell you now that if you dare to Derring DO! you will have a chance to:

• learn a drumming duet with choreographer/dancer/musician and NAfro Artistic Director Casimiro Nhussi;

• create a painting with intermedia artist Freya Bjorg-Olafson;

• learn a duet with singer/songwriter Nathan Rogers;

• co-star in a musical theatre sketch with YoungStars directed by Brenda Gorlick;

• create a dance for WCD company dancers Lise McMillan and Johanna Riley, accompanied by multi-percussionist Tim Church;

• VJ alongside electronic musician/VJ Jaymez;

• sing a duet with singer/songwriter Greg MacPherson (added Feb 3)
...and a few more artistic adventures yet to come!

While the risk takers are away creating their art, the rest of us will enjoy:

• the fabulous music of Jessee Havey and J D Edwards;

• an Argentine Tango lesson from Philbert Furere & Irina Blinova;

• assorted silent auctions for various prize packs;

• the performance of a new dance solo from WCD;

• and then later in the evening, the funk and soul stylings of The Solutions as we party the evening to a close.

The Derring DO! is on Valentines Day so you can take an artistic risk to impress the love of your life or show off to a potential mate in the crowd.  Romantic intentions aside, you can expect a highly-charged evening of unpredictable fun and entertainment in support of Canada's oldest modern dance company.
