Winnipeg audiences get the first taste as Canada’s oldest modern dance company returns to the national touring scene by spending part of our 45th season ON THE ROAD. This is our 2nd offering of the season. ON THE ROAD highlights the versatility and strength of WCD's company dancers in a 90 minute mixed repertoire show. These performances will feature the work of WCD’s current Artistic Director, Brent Lott, along side works by WCD’s Founding Artistic Director, Rachel Browne, and Fredericton’s Lesandra Dodson (a former WCD company dancer and choreographer). A selection of solo's, duets and a quartet culled from WCD's last decade of original creations include Rachel Brown's Mouvement - 'a powerful solo' (Uptown) and Edgelit – Browne is 'an artist who has transcended all dance trends' (Globe & Mail). Lesandra Dodson's In Silence - 'The rawness of love and the blunt edge of loss' (Dance Current). A reworked excerpt from WCD Artistic Director Brent Lott's STRUCK - 'a piece of shimmering beauty’ (Globe & Mail) and as well as a work drawn from Egyptian mythology and the lifecycle of the Scarab Beetle entitled Between the Sycamore (which will premiere as a full-length work in May of 2010) as well as one more piece from Lott, a new duet entitled first walk to available sky. WCD would like to thank Great-West Life for sponsoring the Winnipeg dates of On The Road. Choreographers: Rachel Browne, Lesandra Dodson, Brent Lott
