From March 18 to 20, 2010 Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers brings together two of Canada’s most accomplished men of movement for one powerful evening of dance.
The show opens with Marc Boivin taking to the stage with his powerful solo, Impact. This work speaks of connections between people and of the magnitude of their influence on one another. To whom do we owe the person we become? How do other beings collide with our own existence and ultimately, what shapes our identity? One by one, humans participate in the world, leaving behind a signature, a trace that someone else will find and make his own. Their ripples collide and converge, embrace one another, morphing into new influences. Impact is also and above all a body onstage, the body of a dancer who has lived and embodied the contributions of many, and who has been attuned to their diverse voices. A body on and in which this symphony of influences is harmonized and divided.
After the intermission EDAM Dance takes the stage performing a beautifully crafted quartet by Peter Bingham. Slip reflects a long history and commitment to both the dance technique known as Contact Improvisation and the music of J.S. Bach. This work focuses on the duet form; the Piano and Cello are the musical duet that lives alongside the dancing. Just as Bach gives each instrument equal power of expression, each of the dancers supports and flies in an egalitarian physical exchange. In both the dance and in the music, there are circular and repetitive themes. The dance builds on the flow of weight and momentum. Strength is inserted at critical moments to create suspension and lightness. The bodies work precariously in balance with each other in a constant interchange, mirroring Bach’s extraordinary ability to seamlessly weave to and from lightness and sadness.

Thanks to all who came out to support WCD at our Derring DO! Judging from the audience reaction it was a fun time for all.
For those of you who came to the first do 4 years ago.. the inadvertent fire alarm and arrival of the Fire Truck on Sunday must have brought back fond memories of the complete power failure and Derring Do! by flashlight that was the premiere event way back when.
Extra special thanks to our volunteers for the evening and to the following who donated their time, talent or an item for one of the fundraising auctions.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT

The President of our board of Directors, Talia Pura, is a fab supporter of WCD and a multi-talented artist in her own right. She apparently also has super hero powers or was a secret agent or a cat burglar or something awesome in a previous life.
Of her many skills and talents Talia is also an accomplished Aerial Dancer!
Check out this video (which she also Directed & Produced) over at the Vancouver 2010 web site. It is one of several short films from across Canada showcasing the human body in motion as part of the celebration of the Winter Olympics.
